As per recommendation of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), Institutional Performance Evaluation and Post Graduate Programme Review (IPE-PR), a mandatory activity, is being conducted each year at the universities of Pakistan. This year, IPE was held, at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) under the visionary leadership of worthy Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Presidential Pride of Performance) from 14th -16th June, 2023.
Being the Director Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC)FJMU, Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, organized and coordinated this 3 days evaluation activity along with her core committee members. Prof.Dr. Saira Afzal (Dean Department of Public Health -KEMU), Mr. Farhan Qadir (Deputy Director QEC, KEMU) and Mr. Asim Saeed (Data Analyst QEC, KEMU) were invited as the external evaluators in this regards. The panel held various interactive, group sessions with postgraduate students of various disciplines. This activity also encompassed undergraduate as well as nursing students (SGRH, Shadrah teaching hospital). The IPE team also interacted with the faculty members including demonstrators/Medical Officers, Senior Registrars, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors at different times and venues in the University premises. This discussion included various academic and administrative matters along with feedback and research facilities, different research pathways, grants, and organizational setup. This interaction with faculty concluded with a joint session chaired by Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr. Kamran Khawaja, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Kasuri, Principal FJMC, Prof. Dr Noreen Akmal and Principals of affiliated Nursing Colleges, Deans, and Heads of Departments of FJMU.
IPE evaluation continued through departmental visits of QEC, Department of Medical Education, Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Career counselling & Student Placement Office, Office of Information and Technology, E-Library. They randomly selected and visited Hematology, Histopathology and Chemical pathology departments where they appreciated the various community services that were being provided by the pathology department. While visiting the central library as well as e library, FJMU was praised for dissemination of information, presence of recent journals, latest editions of books, having e books, access to journals and soft wares. The panel also took interest in the working of the Examination Department and its internal audit management system. They appreciated the meticulous analysis of results, as well as paperwork done and organized by the examination department. The student facilitation center (common room) was also visited and was admired for the facilities which are being provided to the students. Dr. Rameeza, also briefed the team about the daycare facilities which are being provided at the University and updated the team about its renovation work. IPE Team randomly selected the psychiatry department and Punjab Thalassemia and Other Genetic Disorder Prevention and Research Institute for inspection and were applauded for the services they are providing to the ailing humanity. Deputy Treasurer, FJMU briefed the team about the various finance operations. After the University and Hospital visit, the exit debriefing was conducted in Counsil Room convened by worth Vice chancellor himself. Registrar FJMU, Principal FJMC, QEC core committee, and Representatives of different administrative departments were also present in the meeting. Registrar FJMU briefed the panel about the history, organizational structure, recent achievements and way forward of FJMU. Dr. Saira Afzal shared her queries and observations in the meeting which were addressed by the worthy Vice Chancellor and the Registrar. Hostel facility, research opportunities, curriculum and post-graduate education including MS/MD, and MPhil were also discussed during this session. Prof.Dr. Saira also highlighted the preparedness, teamwork and coordination of all the faculty and staff members of FJMU especially QEC department . Earlier she also praised the availability of each faculty member despite summer vacation in the University. The Worthy Vice Chancellor FJMU and Principal FJMC appreciated the professionalism and dedication of the panel and the dedication of Director QEC Prof Bilquis Shabbir and her team.
Meeting ended with the vote of thanks from Principal FJMC while pledging on quality medical education, future collaboration and communication with HEC and the guests were presented with souvenirs by the respected Vice chancellor FJMU.
