An awareness seminar on “World Hearing Day” was organized by the ENT Department, FJMU/ SGRH, held Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore.
Former Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Aamer Zaman Khan and Former Head of ENT Department Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Shaheen grace the occasion as Special Guests.
The theme of the seminar was “Ear and Hearing Care for all, Make it a Reality”
In the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked all the distinguished guests Prof. Dr. Aamer Zaman Khan and Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Shaheen. He said that today’s seminar is very important and in this regard, the services of ENT Department of Fatima Jinnah Medical University are commendable. He further said that a new five- storey auditorium will be constructed at Fatima Jinnah Medical University. He further said that the facilities of Modern Gymnasium and Swimming Pool will also be provided in the Girls hostel very soon.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal congratulated Prof. Muhammad Irshad, Prof. Mirza Muhammad Sarwar and all the faculty of ENT Department for successful conduction of seminar.
Former Head of ENT Department Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Manzoor Ahmed Shaheen gave a comprehensive briefing regarding World Hearing Day. He said that hearing related diseases and deafness are increasing day by day. Its main cause is noise, which is the biggest enemy of the ear. He said that we should limit noise, take precautions, make Newborn Screening Mandatory, minimize the usage of hands-free, and avoid self-cleaning of ears. At the end of his address, he thanked all the participants.
In the seminar, the final year student Syeda Wila E Zahra and Audiologist Madam Amina gave presentations on various topics regarding World Hearing Day.
Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal thanked all the distinguished guests. She said that the World Health Organization has declared this day as World Hearing Day, and the take-home message from today’s seminar is to diagnose the disease as soon as possible and take prevent it.
An awareness walk was also organized at the end of the seminar.
