The Department of Pulmonology and Critical Care became functional in 2020. Assistant Professor, Mirza Ayub Baig was amongst the pioneers and continues to spearhead the Department. The Department has a ten bedded ICU setting having 10 functional ventilators and a procedure room, which caters patients from Emergency department, wards and sometimes from other hospitals as well. There are 8 Medical Officers and 16 staff nurses working in the Department. The well-trained team of Pulmonology and Critical care Department provides support services 24/7 and works enthusiastically for recovery of patients having breathing issues and other respiratory pathologies requiring ventilator support. The department has facilities for Airway management and passing Endotracheal Tube, Cardiovascular monitoring, Central venous catheter placement, Double lumen catheter placement, Chest tube insertion and Dialysis facility for patients developing acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. The department also conducts advanced Interventional Pulmonology procedures like Bronchoscopy and lung biopsy. In the era of Covid–19 pandemic, the whole team has provided excellent care to critical cases characterized by ARDS, respiratory failure, septic shock and Mul organ failure etc. The department is currently striving for initiation of postgraduate programs (FCPS and MD Pulmonology), which are expected to be started soon in near future.
