Vice Chancellor’s Message

It gives me an absolute honor and great privilege to write this message today to the cream of nation and inspiring professionals of Fatima Jinnah Medical University where I have fond memories of being a regular Vice Chancellor with best team.
Fatima Jinnah Medical College for women was established in 1948, named after the illustrious sister of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The institute was elevated to the status of Fatima Jinnah Medical University on 1st July, 2015.
It attracts the best talent not only from Pakistan but all over the world and countries of SAARC region as well. Among the three affiliated teaching hospitals, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is one of the oldest tertiary care hospital established in 1946.Its faculty consists of eminent professors and distinguished specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research and service delivery.  The alumni of FJMU are pride of institute serving in the country and abroad. Again the credit goes to this esteemed institution that has given them the best education, professionalism and moral values.

The 15th CPC session for the 2025–2026 academic year was efficiently organized under the leadership of Prof. Bilquis Shabbir and held with the guidance of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, Vice Chancellor FJMU. Two clinical departments of Fatima Jinnah Medical University/Sir Ganga Ram Hospital presented academically strong and insightful cases.1. Medical Unit–IIILed by: Prof. Dr. Rashid IqbalThe team presented a case of a 58-year-old female with shortness of breath, highlighting the diagnostic complexity and emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary approach supported by thorough clinical evaluation and appropriate investigations.2. Department of PaediatricsLed by: Prof. Naveed Akbar Hutiyana and Prof. Dr. Fouzia IshaqThe department discussed a syndromic child with endocrine and cardiac issues, providing a comprehensive diagnostic overview and stressing the value of correlating clinical, radiological, surgical, and pathological findings for accurate diagnosis.Key InsightsVice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal emphasized early diagnosis, timely intervention, and the central role of detailed history-taking and clinical examination in quality patient care.A productive question-and-answer session further deepened the academic discussion.The CPC highlighted evidence-based practice while reinforcing the importance of empathy, ethics, and holistic care. Workshop on Reflective Prescription at FJMU – Department of Medical EducationA focused and impactful workshop on “Reflective Prescription” was conducted at the Department of Medical Education (DME), Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Chairperson of Medicine and Director DME. The session was organized with the continued support and visionary guidance of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, Vice Chancellor FJMU.The workshop was skillfully facilitated by Prof. Saima Rafique, HOD Gynecology & Obstetrics and a distinguished medical educationist, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session on the significance of reflective practice in clinical prescribing. She emphasized how reflective prescription strengthens patient safety, refines clinical decision-making, and promotes a culture of accountability and continuous professional development.Through group discussions, reflective exercises, and interactive dialogue, participants examined key principles of safe prescribing, identified common pitfalls, and explored effective strategies to integrate reflective thinking into everyday clinical practice.The session received high appreciation from both faculty and trainees. Pre-Conference Proceedings for Annual Scientific Conference 2025The Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) and the Department of Medical Education (DME), Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), organized a Pre-Conference Workshop on HIV Awareness titled “Let’s Talk About HIV/AIDS Spread in Pakistan” on 9th December 2025 at the FJMU Auditorium. The event also included the launching of the book “Building HIV Care Capacity in Pakistan” by Ms. Fizza S. Gillani.The workshop was held under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor FJMU, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz & Presidential Pride of Performance). The session was attended by Principal FJMC Prof. Abdul Hameed, Prof Dr. Aamir Zaman (Director PHOTA, Former Vice Chancellor FJMU), Prof. Bilquiss Shabbir, Dr. Majid. Senior faculty members, final-year MBBS students, and nursing students from Shadara Hospital and SGRH attended the session. The session was facilitated by Dr. Saima Abbas, Infectious Disease Physician and Co-Chair, APPNA MERIT HIV Committee and Dr Qurat Ul Ain from Punjab AIDS Control Program (PACP).They delivered an informative presentation on HIV epidemiology, transmission, prevention, early diagnosis, and ways to improve HIV care services in Pakistan.
