Vice Chancellor’s Message

It gives me an absolute honor and great privilege to write this message today to the cream of nation and inspiring professionals of Fatima Jinnah Medical University where I have fond memories of being a regular Vice Chancellor with best team.
Fatima Jinnah Medical College for women was established in 1948, named after the illustrious sister of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The institute was elevated to the status of Fatima Jinnah Medical University on 1st July, 2015.
It attracts the best talent not only from Pakistan but all over the world and countries of SAARC region as well. Among the three affiliated teaching hospitals, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is one of the oldest tertiary care hospital established in 1946.Its faculty consists of eminent professors and distinguished specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research and service delivery.  The alumni of FJMU are pride of institute serving in the country and abroad. Again the credit goes to this esteemed institution that has given them the best education, professionalism and moral values.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health / Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), Lahore, successfully organized the 2nd International Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Symposium, titled “Navigating the Future of Reproduction.” The event proved to be highly informative and intellectually enriching.The Patron-in-Chief of the symposium was the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Presidential Pride of Performance), while the Patron was the Principal of Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Dr. Abdul Hameed. The symposium was led by Chief Organizer Prof. Aisha Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SGRH, with Associate Professor Dr. Nomia Ashraf serving as Co-Organizer and the first CPSP-recognized supervisor for Level 4 training.The symposium focused on advancing knowledge and introducing novel clinical practices in reproductive medicine. It was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. Ahmad Wasim Yousaf, a distinguished figure in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a retired professor from King Edward Medical University. His presence added great prestige and inspiration for both faculty and trainees.The relentless efforts and dedication of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Medical Superintendent Dr. Arif Iftikhar, Prof. Aisha Malik, and Associate Professor Dr. Nomia Ashraf were highlighted as instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Their contributions have played a pivotal role in initiating structured training programs and advancing subspecialty services in this field.The symposium brought together renowned national and international experts. The distinguished speakers included international guest Dr. Sibt-e-Hassan, an IVF specialist from Corniche Infertility Center, Abu Dhabi; Prof. Yousaf Latif Khan, a gynaecological endoscopic surgeon from Hameed Latif Hospital; Prof. Fawad Ahmad Randhawa, an endocrinologist from Jinnah Hospital; Dr. Iftikhar Sadiq, a reproductive consultant and IVF specialist from GENOVA; and Dr. Asma Ali Khan, a clinical geneticist from CEMB, Punjab University.Their insightful presentations covered key aspects of infertility management, including the evolving role of hysteroscopy, advancements in assisted reproductive technologies, the role of the microbiome, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and evidence-based approaches to patient care.A special highlight of the symposium was the visionary address by the Medical Superintendent, who emphasized the importance of integrating modern reproductive technologies into public sector hospitals to enhance accessibility and improve patient outcomes. The Principal also shared valuable remarks, appreciating the efforts of the organizing team and underscoring the importance of continuous medical education, research, and innovation in elevating healthcare standards.The symposium was attended by participants from various public and private sector hospitals across Punjab, including Sargodha, Sialkot, and Gujranwala. Among the distinguished attendees were Prof. Dr. Tabinda Rana, Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Dr. Alia Bashir, Prof. Dr. Iffat Naheed, Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Prof. Dr. Shumaila Hanif, Prof. Dr. Shehla Anwar, Prof. Dr. Amna Zia Yousaf, Prof. Dr. Nadia Khursheed, Prof. Dr. Kiran Khursheed, Prof. Dr. Faiqa, Prof. Dr. Saima Chaudhary, and Dr. Areeba Saqib. The esteemed faculty of SGRH, including Prof. Dr. Shamila Ijaz Munir, Prof. Dr. Farzana Latif, and Prof. Dr. Madeeha Rasheed, also attended and appreciated the event.The organizing team deserves commendation for meticulously planning and executing the symposium, ensuring a seamless and engaging academic experience. FJMU Curriculum Committee MeetingThe Time Table & Curriculum Committee meeting was held on 27th March 2026 at FJMU, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal and convener of the committee Principal FJMC Prof. Abdul Hameed. The meeting was attended by Deans Prof. Aisha Malik, Prof. Aliya Zahid, Prof. Naveed Akbar Hotiana, along with Heads of Departments Prof. Naghmana Latif, Prof. Asma Qureshi, Prof. Taskeen Zahra, Prof. Gulpash Saghir, Prof. Humera, and Dr. Iram Amir.Key agenda items, including the Academic Calendar, Examination Calendar 2026, updated teaching hours, and distinction criteria, were presented and unanimously approved by the committee.The Vice Chancellor appreciated the tireless efforts of the Examination Department for the smooth conduct of examinations and commended all departments for their excellent teamwork in the ongoing upgradation of the university. He also expressed satisfaction over the steady progress of postgraduate medical education and congratulated the entire staff on the successful induction of M.Phil. Programs, MCPS, Level-IV Programs including Obst. & Gynae Subspecialties and Spine Fellowship at FJMU. It may be mentioned here that FJMU/ SGRH is the only institution with induction of 4 Subspecialties of Obst. & Gynae (Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, and Gynecological Oncology) University and CPSP Programs. Furthermore, he shared the way forward for the initiation of Ph.D. programs in the near future Insha’Allah. Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University and MS SGRH Spend Eid-ul-Fitr with Patients and Onduty Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram HospitalThe Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, upheld his two-decade-long tradition by visiting Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He along with MS spent the EID day with patients, onduty doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, sharing moments of compassion and solidarity.On this occasion, Medical Superintendent Dr. Arif Iftikhar, HOD Dr. Shabbir Chauhan, as well as senior faculty members and members of the hospital administration, were also present.Accompanied by faculty members, the Vice Chancellor visited the hospital’s emergency department, medical and surgical wards, and pharmacy. He inquired after the well-being of patients, extended Eid best wishes , and prayed for speedy recovery. He also acknowledged the unwavering dedication of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff on duty, distributing Eidi among them as a gesture of appreciation.Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal remarked that Eid-ul-Fitr embodies the values of collective vision , sacrifice, and compassion. He commended the efforts of the Government of Punjab in providing quality healthcare facilities at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and expressed his sincere gratitude. He emphasized that serving ailing humanity represents the true spirit of Eid.He further appreciated the commitment of healthcare professionals who, despite being away from their families—many from distant regions and other provinces—continue to serve patients with dedication. He noted that such selflessness reflects the highest standards of professionalism, as they prioritize patient care over personal celebrations, a spirit that brings success in both this world and the hereafter.On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor also offered prayers for the all departed souls, particularly the martyrs, praying for their highest ranks and forgiveness.
