The Department of Paediatrics, FJMU/ SGRH is known as Rao Bahadur Narain Das Mool th Chand Hospital for Children. It was founded by Lady Glancy on 5 April, 1944, and was st formally inaugurated by Sir Evan Jenkins (Governor of the Punjab) on 21 December, 1946. Aer paron, Prof. Hajira Abdullah was appointed the first Head of Department. Currently, the department is being headed by Prof. Naveed Akbar Hoana, who is also the Dean Faculty of Public Health & Prevenve Medicine. There are three Assistant Professors, four Senior Registrars, one Principal Medical Officer, one Senior Medical Officer and one Woman Medical Officer working in the department. In addion there are twenty FCPS trainees, fieen MD postgraduate residents and twenty one House Officers in the department. It is a 130 bedded department, comprising of Paediatric Emergency (13 beds), Paediatrics ICU (12 beds), Neonatal Unit (60 beds), Paediatric Ward/ Isolaon/ High Dependancy Unit (39 beds ) and Prevenve Paediatrics (6 beds). There is an acve Outpaent Department (OPD) as well with a high paent turn over. Furthermore Ultrasonography, Laboratory and X-ray facility are available under one roof, for facilitaon of the paents. The department has an extraordinary teaching acvity, involving teachers from other instuons as well. Moreover, the department conducts training courses in collaboraon with UNICEF for Lady Health Visitors (LHV) and nurses. Other training courses like Neonatal Resuscitaon, Breast Feeding & Clinical Preparaon Course for Postgraduates are also arranged on regular basis.
