The inial set up of Dialysis Unit commenced working in 1997, with assistance of Hope kidney Foundaon . In 2009, an independent Nephrology Department was established in Fama Jinnah Block ,SGRH. An eminent pioneer was Prof. Sameena Akram. The department is recognized for rotaonal training, in addion to being approved for both FCPS & MD postgraduate programs. It is currently being headed by Associate Professor , Dr. Shahid Anwar, who is also a Supervisor for FCPS & MD postgraduate programs in Nephrology. There are 10 FCPS and 4 MD students under his supervision. The faculty also includes one Assistant Professor. The experienced and dedicated team is involved in assessment and management of paents with different renal diseases, along with provision of facility of maintenance hemodialysis which is available in emergency situaons as well. The department also has experse in conducng renal biopsies and passing double lumen catheters. The service provision is complemented by a well-equipped Dialysis unit having six machines for Hepas B/C negave paents, seven machines for Hepas C posive paents and one machine for Hepas B posive paents, requiring dialysis. The Department has ten bedded separate male and female wards, shared with Medical Unit 1. The infrastructure also includes rooms for Consultants, Medical Officers, House Officers and academic purpose. The department has a comfortable waing area for paents as well.
