Fatima Jinnah Medical University is a leading institute in Dengue prevention and management and has been holding regular seminars and symposia, almost throughout the year on the prevention, awareness, early diagnosis, and management of Dengue Fever and potentially fatal Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, under the kind patronage of Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal.
Following the tradition and vision of the Health Department, Department of Medicine/Quality Enhancement Cell FJMU under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir, Chairperson Medicine SGRH/ Director QEC/ Dean Faculty Nursing/ Member of DEAG organised this important activity upon the advice of the government and the personal interest of the Vice Chancellor, who himself has been leading the Dengue Expert Panel both at KEMU and especially at FJMU.
The seminar was attended by dministrative staff, and Nursing leads of all 3 Affiliated Hospitals, along with Senior Faculty members, PGRs, and House officers. The highlight of the seminar was on the identification and eradication of vector of dengue fever, the seminar on “BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF DENGUE VIRUS VECTOR” in observance of Dengue Day in Punjab was held on Saturday, 15 July 2023, in the Department of Medical Education, FJMU.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid, Principal FJMC Prof. Noreen Akmal, Medical Superintendent, SGRH Dr. Amir Saleem, Medical Superintendent, GMTH Dr. Muhammad Ahsan and focal person for Dengue control Dr. Bushra also graced the event with their presence.
Guest Speaker and facilitator was Dr. Faiz Ahmed Raza, Principal Research Officer, Team Lead Research Institute, NIH; TB Research Centre, KEMU Lahore, who delivered excellent, informative, and effective control for the deadly vector of dengue fever, practically demonstrating the collection, experimentation, and disposal of the dengue mosquito life cycle and raising public awareness for control and prevention of the spread of the deadly disease.
Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir and Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid shared their views on clinical history and the development of guidelines over the years. Concluding the event by presenting a shield of honour to the guest speaker. A dengue awareness walk, encouraging community participation as a strategy of dengue outbreak prevention, concluded the event.
This activity was in continuation with the series of Dengue Outbreak Educational activities including a seminar on clinical management held at FJMU earlier on Wednesday, 12th July, 2023.
