A pre-scientific workshop on “Basic Surgical Skills” was organized by the Department of Surgery Unit-II, FJMU/ SGRH under the supervision of Professor Dr. Imran Aslam (HOD Surgical Unit-II) in the Skills Lab, Emergency Department, SGRH, Lahore.
The Patron-in-chief of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Presidential Pride of Performance), Vice Chancellor, FJMU, graced the occasion as chief guest.
Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir (Chairperson, Department of Medicine/QEC/Dean Nursing, FJMU) and the secretary organising committee also graced the occasion.
The session was facilitated by Dr. Hina Khan (Associate Professor Surgical Unit-II, SGRH, Lahore). The moderators of the workshop were Drs. Arshad, Qaiser Mian, Arsalan Ahmad, and Anza Talal. The Chairman of Department of Surgery/ProVC Prof Kamran Khalid Khawaja also was present on the occasion to supervise and provide practical tips.
The objective of the workshop was to train and enhance the practical skills of healthcare professionals. Medical skills labs are dedicated spaces within medical education institutions or hospitals designed to train and enhance the practical skills of healthcare professionals. These labs provide a hands-on learning environment where students, residents, and practicing professionals can practice and refine various clinical procedures, diagnostic techniques, and patient care protocols in a controlled setting before applying them in real-life scenarios.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, performed various procedures and said that medical skills labs are established to improve clinical competency, enhance patient safety, foster teamwork and communication among healthcare professionals, and ultimately improve the quality of patient care. These labs are essential in modern medical education as they provide a safe environment for learners to make mistakes, learn from them, and gain confidence before treating actual patients.
At the end, the HOD of Surgical Unit II, Prof. Dr. Imran Aslam, presented a bouquet of flowers to the worthy Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal.
