FJMU ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE 2023* *PRE-SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP ON “LIFE STYLE MEDICINE” AT FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY LAHORE

A pre-scientific workshop on “Lifestyle Medicine” was organised by GYNAE Unit 1 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aisha Malik, HOD Obst. & Gynae unit 1, Dean Undergraduates, FJMU.
Dr. Saima Chaudhry (Associate Professor Gynae Unit-1) moderated the workshop.
The Patron-in-Chief of the workshop, Prof. DR. KHALID MASUD GONDAL (T.I. and Presidential Pride of Performance), Vice Chancellor of FJMU, graced the occasion as chief guest.
Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Principal FJMC/Director DME, and HOD Gynae Unit 2 along with Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir (Chairperson Department of Medicine/Quality Enhancement Cell/Dean Nursing FJMU) Secretary organising committee also graced the occasion.
The Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, was also accompanied by Prof. Muhammad Amjad, an ENT specialist, & Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad.
The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun (visiting Prof. Obst. & Gynae FJMU, former VC and Dean Surgery, FJMU).
The main objective of today’s workshop was to emphasise the importance of lifestyle modification as a primary preventive strategy to improve quality of life. It covers things like diet, exercise, handling stress, getting enough sleep, and staying away from bad things like tobacco and too much alcohol. By encouraging better habits and behaviours, this strategy seeks to address the underlying causes of many chronic illnesses.
The workshop was attended by 30 participants from different hospitals in Lahore, including senior faculty like Prof. Dr. Shamila Ijaz Munir and Prof. Amna Zia. Prof. Rameeza Kaleem, Dr. Sofia Iqbal, Dr. Nuzhat Malik, Dr. Farzana, PGRs, as well as students.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, VC FJMU, emphasised in his speech the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle & avoiding bad habits to improve health and wellbeing. He highlighted the importance of empowering individuals to make sustainable changes in their lives. It often involves personalized plans tailored to a person’s specific health needs and goals. By adopting healthier habits, individuals can often reduce the risk of developing conditions like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers.
He highly appreciated the facilitator, Prof. Shamsa Humayun, and Gynae Unit 1 for organising such a workshop. His speech was followed by a group photograph with all the participants.
