A hands-on workshop on “DIFFICULT AIRWAY MANAGEMENT” was arranged by the Pulmonology & Critical Care Department, FJMU/SGRH, on February 1, 2024, under the leadership of Prof. Bilquis Shabbir. (Chair Medicine, Dean Nursing and Director QEC) and patronship of VC-FJMU Prof Khalid Masud Gondal.
Prof. Dr. Saulat Ullah (Former Chairman of ICM KEMU & HOD PGMI LGH) and Prof. Dr. Salman Ayaz (HOD Pulmonology & Critical Care Department, Services Hospital, Lahore) graced the occasion as Guests of Honour.
Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir gave the welcome address and highlighted the importance of an established Critical Care Unit Department for better healthcare provision.
The target audience was the Faculty Members, Postgraduate Residents and House Officers of the Pulmonology and Medicine Departments, and Medical Officers from the ICU. Residents and Consultants from various other hospitals in Lahore also participated in the workshop.
Dr. Waqas Aslam (Assistant Professor and HOD Pulmonology and Critical Care Unit) and Dr. Tamim Tahir (Senior Registrar Pulmonology and Critical Care) were the main facilitators of the workshop.
A detailed discussion on “Rapid Sequence Intubation” and “Management of Difficult Airways” was done. Various aspects of managing a critically ill patient were taught. It was followed by a hands-on practice session for all the participants, which helped them improve and learn the techniques of intubation and managing a case of difficult airways.
Prof. Saulat Ullah and Prof. Salman Ayyaz shared their words of wisdom with the audience and appreciated the efforts of the Pulmonology and Critical Care Department SGRH/ FJMU for organizing a fruitful series of workshop.
Prof. Bilquis Shabbir made the concluding remarks that such activities have been a vital part of FJMU academics and aim at better healthcare provision to patients and updating the knowledge and skills of the upcoming young doctors.
A vote of thanks was paid by Dr. Waqas Aslam, and appreciated the keen interest shown by participants.
At the end, the worthy Dean of Medicine presented shields to the Guest of Honour, Prof. Salman Ayaz, and Prof. Saulat Ullah.
She also presented shields to Dr. Waqas Aslam and Dr. Tamim Tahir for conducting a successful workshop.
