A seminar was organised on the occasion of World Brain Day by the Department of Psychiatry with the support of the Department of Neurology and the Department of Neurosurgery at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore.
The Worthy Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz/Presidential Pride of Performance) graced the occasion as Chief Guest.Ex-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shamsa Hamayun was the Guest of Honor. The seminar was held in collaboration with QEC Calendar 2023.
Speakers of the seminar were Professor Dr. Aysha Rashid, Chairperson Psychiatry Department, Associate Professor Dr. Faheem Saeed, Chairperson Department of Neurology and Assistant Professor Dr. Talha Abbas from Neurosurgery, who highlighted medical and surgical interventions required for Epilepsy and neuropsychiatric sequelae.
Professor Khalid Masood Gondal thanked all the participants in the seminar. He said that all three departments—Psychiatry, Neurology and neurosurgery—are working together to improve the mental health of patients. The Department of Psychiatry is playing an active role in determining mental disability, for which Prof. Ayesha Rashid, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, deserves congratulations. He lauded the integrated efforts of the faculty of neurosciences in conducting this seminar. He also highlighted the significance of this Day and talked about brain health. He also discussed the role of religion in maintaining internal peace and mental health. Ex-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shamsa Hamayun, and Chairperson, Department of Medicine/ Director QEC/ Dean Nursing, Professor Dr. Bilquis Shabbir, also shared their comments regarding the significance of correlation of mental and physical wellbeing in the managementofpatients.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem, Registrar FJMU, Dean Undergraduate Professor Dr. Ayesha Malik, Head of Physiology Department, Dr. Naghamana Lateef, and Head of Radiology Department, Dr. Mahjabeen, as well as faculty members and Postgraduate trainees from the departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neurosurgery, also attended the seminar.
