“VICE CHANCELLORS MEETING DAY THREE” Today was the Day3 of Vice Chancellor’s Conference at Kohsar University. It was a hybrid session . The theme of the session was Promotion of technologies and technology intensive solutions-research and scholarship, with the subtheme of “Current Trends in Health Education”. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Shoaib Shafi, President CPSP and Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University along with Prof Zafar Ali Ch VC FMU. The keynote speech was my Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta, Agha Khan University, and Chair Health Sciences, HEC on the role of universities in supporting health research priorities in Pakistan. This was followed by a presentation by Prof Masood Sadiq, VC University of Child Health Sciences Lahore on the role of universities in addressing human resource development and reforms in Pakistan for health. These talks we followed by a robust panel discussion with special emphasis on ongoing floods MDR and COVID-19 situation.The panel discussion was moderated by Professor Khalid Masood Gondal and Prof Zafar ali Choudhry, VC Faisalabad Medical University The panelists included Prof EhsanRathore, VC UHS, Professor Mahmood Ayyaz, VC King Edward Medical University, Prof Rana Altaf , VC Nishter Medical University. Professor Bilquis Shabbir, FJMU, member CEAG and DEAG also attended the session.
Professor Khalid Masud Gonadal stressed on the post COVID scenario and how the floods and prevalence of dengue has worsened the post COVID situation. He stressed on how important training and surveillance against Dengue is in those areas.Professor Bilquis Shabbir presented the experience of Fatima Jinnah Medical University teams, who have visited South Punjab and Sindh on ground in the flood affected areas, held medical camps and established FJMU village. the need for Infectious Disease Program and Critical Care Medicine was stressed upon as a lesson learned from the experience of COVID-19. At the concluding session a special consortium/committee was constituted consisting of all vcs of medical universities of Punjab and reprentation from each province and cpsp reprentation too. The committee will deliberate on issues and challenges faced by health institutions and will recommend a way forward.
