Fatima Jinnah Medical University organized the 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PATIENT SAFETY, on March 10-12, 2023 in collaboration with Riphah International University under the patronship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal. Tamgha e Imtiaz, Presidential Pride of Performance. The organizing Committee consisted of Prof Kamran Khawaja, Pro-VC, Prof Noreen Akmal Principal, Prof Shamsa Hamayun, Alumnus and ex-VC, Prof Munazza Iqbal, Deal Basic Sciences, Prof Muniza Qayyum, Dean Undergraduate and Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Director Quality Enhancement Cell/Chairperson Medicine. The 2-day long mega event was centered around the quality enhancement of medical care especially patient safety. Highlights of the Conference included multiple preconference workshops, Scientific Symposia and State-of-the-art lectures by national and international faculty. Numerous speakers from all over the world participated in this academic activity.
5 PARALLEL SESSION WERE HELD on March 11, 2023:
SESSION 1: “FREE PAPER AND POSTER COMPETITION”. The session was chaired by Professor Shamsa Humayun Ex Pro VC and Professor of Gynaecology , co-chaired by Prof Bilquis Shabbir. Professor of Medicine and Director QEC.he Judge was Dr. Saima Aslam, Training consultant RIHIS Riphah International University. The moderator of Dr Ali Tahir Rana, CEO Maxx health Hospital. There were 9 papers on patient safety topics presented by Medical Students and faculty. More than 50 participants including faculty members, doctors, and students attended the session.
SESSION 2 : ” MEDICATION SAFETY ” WAS HELD ON MARCH 11, 2023.
The session was Chaired by Mr.Asim Rauf Chief Operating Officer DRAP, , Co-Chair by Prof Dr Nadeem Irfan Bukhari, Dean Institute of Pharmacy Punjab University and Prof Munazza Iqbal Dean Basic Sciences and Head of Pathology Department Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Moderator of the session was Dr M Farhan Sohail Director Riphah Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences . Presentors were Prof Dr Abdur Rashid President FIMA .member of Patient Safety Council MOH , Malaysia. Penalist were, Mr Muqeet Kazmi Quality Director Martin Dow ,Ms Sumaira Khan, Head of Pharmacy Tabba Heart Institute,Prof ,Tan Kok Hian Singapore Group Director Sing health duke NUS Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Ms Uzma Yousuf, Chief Pharmacist, Drug controller, AMS Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore. Dr Zakria Saleem , Assistant Professor faculty of Pharm Bahauddin Zykria University Multan, Dr Muhammad Awais , Head of Pharmacy Ghurki Hospital Lahore. The session was attended by 200 participants including instructors, nurses, faculty members doctors, and students.
SESSION 3:” NEED FOR NATIONAL STANDARD AND ACCREDITATION”
Session were Chaired by Mr Arshad Qaimkhani , Chairman Sehat Sahulat Card, Co Chair were Maj , Gen . Dr Muhammad Aleem Director General Hospital , Moderator Dr Qaid Saeed, CEO Islamabad Health care Regularity Authority , Speaker Dr Salm Jauni CEO health care accreditation council Jordan , Ms Affifa Munawar Technical Officer Patient Safety , , WHO Countery Office Pakistan. Penalist Dr Faisal Dar Executive Director PKLI Lahore , Dr Suhail Arshad Rana Director Gen Health Services Punjab , Dr Syed Shahzaman Sultan Deputy director emergency SGRH Lahore, Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz CEO Punjab Health Care Commission , Mr AttiqurRehman Deputy Director National Accreditation Council . They discussed the Standard and Accreditation of Hospitals and national and International healthcare services .More than 150 participants including instructors, faculty members , doctors and students attended the session.
Session 4:” UNDERGRADUATE AND PG CURRICULUM OF PATIENT SAFETY “
Session was Chaired by Prof Khalid Masud Gondal Vice Chancellor,Fatima Jinnah Medical University. Moderators of the session were Brig (R)Dr Maqsood ul Hassan Vice Principal Islamic International Medical College Trust. Presenters were Prof Dr Paul Barach Maj ( R) Professor Thomas Jefferson University USA ,Sigmund Freud University Veinna , Visiting Professor Riphah University. Penalists were Prof Dr Noreen Akmal Principal, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Director Medical Education Lahore , Prof Prof Dr Kamran Khalid Khwaja Pro Vice Chancellor Dean of Surgery FJMU , Prof Dr Nadia Naseem Registrar UHS Lahore. They all discussed different aspects of Undergraduate and PG National and International Curriculum. More than 200 participants attended the session, including instructors, nurses, faculty members doctors and students.
SESSION 5: “ROLE OF NURSING IN PATIENT SAFETY
Session was Chaired by Professor Zohra Khanum , Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology , Dean Nursing & Allied Health Sciences Fatima Jinnah Medical University , co chaired by Ms Rehana Elahi, Director Nursing SKMCH&RC. The Moderator of the workshop is Ms Asma Mughal, Director Nursing RIU. Workshop panelists / speakers included MS Humaira Athar Principal Riphah College of Nursing Rawalpindi IMCT , Ms Amtul Anayat Deputy Nursing Superintendant UCHS&CH, Ms Mehtab Sikandar Director Nursing Shalamar hospital, Ms Kalsoom Ramzan Director Nursing PKLI&RCSpeakers highlighted the Role of Nursing in Patient care , Role of Nursing in communication and accreditation standards in Nursing .The session was attended by 185 participants including instructors, nurses, doctors and students.
PLENARY SESSION: “GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE OF PATIENT SAFETY”
Session was Chaired by Dr Ali Sherazi.
