It gives me an absolute honor and great privilege to write this message today to the cream of nation and inspiring professionals of Fatima Jinnah Medical University where I have fond memories of being a regular Vice Chancellor with best team.
Fatima Jinnah Medical College for women was established in 1948, named after the illustrious sister of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The institute was elevated to the status of Fatima Jinnah Medical University on 1st July, 2015.
It attracts the best talent not only from Pakistan but all over the world and countries of SAARC region as well. Among the three affiliated teaching hospitals, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is one of the oldest tertiary care hospital established in 1946.Its faculty consists of eminent professors and distinguished specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research and service delivery. The alumni of FJMU are pride of institute serving in the country and abroad. Again the credit goes to this esteemed institution that has given them the best education, professionalism and moral values.

𝐍𝐁𝐑𝐒𝐏 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔The Department of Radiology, Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) / Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), Lahore, in collaboration with the National Breast Radiological Society of Pakistan (NBRSP), conducted a hands-on Pre-Conference NBRSP Annual Workshop 2026 titled “𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬: 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐲” on 5th September 2026, under the kind Patronage of Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed.The activity was conducted under the leadership of the Head of the Department of Radiology, Dr. Saman Chaudhry, with Dr. Verda Ashraf serving as Co-Organiser. The activity was coordinated by Dr. Mehwish Nizam, Senior Registrar, Department of Radiology, SGRH, and Dr. Adnan Arshad (SMO) as Co-Coordinators. Moderators Dr. Fatima Hassan (Postgraduate Resident Radiology), Miss Abeera, Application Expert, facilitated the technical and hands-on component of the workshop. The programme commenced with Tilawat-e-Quran, followed by an informative presentation on stereotactic breast biopsy delivered by Dr. Mehwish Nizam (Senior Registrar). This was followed by remarks from the esteemed Head of the Department, Dr. Saman Chaudhry, who highlighted the pivotal role of stereotactic breast biopsy in the diagnosis of occult breast lesions and emphasized its importance in achieving early and accurate diagnosis.The workshop focused on key aspects of stereotactic breast biopsy, including patient selection, stereotactic localization and positioning, biopsy technique, specimen radiography, and clip deployment. The hands-on training was designed to enhance participants’ practical skills and confidence in performing image-guided breast interventions, while promoting early and accurate diagnosis of breast malignancies.The event was honoured by the presence of Professor Mah Jabeen Masood (Ex-HOD), Associate Professor Dr. Fariha Shams, Senior Registrars from the Department of Radiology, LGH Hospital, and senior surgical colleagues, Dr. Mariam and Dr. Riffat.The programme also included shield distribution, followed by an interactive hands-on session on stereotactic breast biopsy and refreshments. The workshop provided an excellent platform for practical learning, skill enhancement, knowledge sharing, and professional collaboration in the fields of breast imaging and image-guided intervention.The successful conduct of the workshop reflects the commitment of the Department of Radiology, FJMU/SGRH, and NBRSP towards advancing breast imaging expertise and strengthening the skills of healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of breast disease.
🎗️ 𝐆𝐘𝐍𝐀𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇 🎗️The Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month was observed in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Unit 4, Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) / Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), Lahore, under the kind patronage of the Vice Chancellor, FJMU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed.The event was held under the leadership of Professor Madeeha Rashid and featured an informative awareness session entitled:“𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒚 𝑫𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒚𝒏𝒂𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑶𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚”The session focused on raising awareness about the warning signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers, preventive measures, appropriate screening, and the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝟭𝟭𝟮𝟮 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗝𝗠𝗖 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹, 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, 𝗟𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲Fatima Jinnah Medical University, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed, organized an Emergency Response and Disaster Management Training Session at FJMC Girls Hostel, Waris Road, in collaboration with Rescue 1122.The session equipped students with practical knowledge and essential life-saving skills related to disaster preparedness and management, fire safety, emergency response, safe handling and transportation of injured persons, and the appropriate use of rescue equipment.A particularly valuable aspect of the training was its hands-on approach. Students enthusiastically participated in demonstrations and practical exercises, including assisting and safely carrying injured persons and learning appropriate response procedures during fires and other emergency situations. The active participation of students made the session both engaging and impactful, transforming emergency preparedness from theoretical knowledge into practical skills.Special appreciation is extended to Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed, Vice Chancellor FJMU, for his continued emphasis on student safety and preparedness and for supporting initiatives that equip students with skills that can save lives during critical situations.The activity was arranged by Prof. Dr. Taskeen Zahra, in coordination with the student body of ORIC and BIC, Dr. Irfan Saleem and Dr. Asif Faheem. Hostel resident staff and workers also participated enthusiastically in the training, reinforcing the importance of a coordinated institutional response during emergencies.FJMU remains committed to fostering a safe, prepared and responsive campus community through practical training, awareness and collective responsibility.
FJMU Organizes Workshop on "Manuscript Writing, Proposal writing and Grant writing "The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) successfully organized a workshop on “Manuscript Writing, Proposal writing and Grant writing” on 3rd September 2026 at the ORIC Hall, FJMU.The workshop was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed, Vice Chancellor, FJMU, and aimed to enhance participants’ understanding and practical skills in scientific writing, manuscript preparation, and publication of research work. The session was delivered by Mr. Muhammad Adnan, MS, Researcher, NIH Islamabad, and Assistant Editor, PJMR & CBS, who provided valuable insights and practical guidance on developing well-structured research manuscripts and preparing research work for publication.The workshop was organized by Prof. Dr. Taskeen Zahra, Director ORIC & BIC and Head of Community Medicine Department, FJMU. Dr. Sunniya Rasool, Deputy Director ORIC, and Alizay Zafar, ORIC Emerging Researcher Program Lead, served as focal persons for the event.The workshop was well attended by faculty members, postgraduate residents (PGRs), and students of FJMU, who actively engaged in the session and benefited from the expert guidance and practical discussion on research manuscriptwriting and scholarly publication.The activity reflects FJMU’s continued commitment to promoting a strong research culture, enhancing research capacity, and supporting faculty and students in producing high-quality scientific publications.
𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐂𝐘 𝐒𝐘𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐔𝐌The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Unit-I, Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore arranged an evidence-based Breast Feeding Advocacy Symposium in collaboration with UNICEF under the kind supervision of Prof. Aisha Malik (HOD Gynae Unit-I and Dean Surgery & Allied). The symposium was arranged by Dr. Yasmeen, Assistant Professor of Obst. & Gynae Unit-I, FJMU/ SGRH, Lahore.The speakers were Prof. Shamila Ijaz (HOD Obst. & Gynae Unit-II), Prof. Tayyaba Rasheed (HOD Obst & Gynae Unit-III), Prof. Rameeza Kaleem (HOD Preventive Paediatrics), Prof. Fouzia Ishaq and Dr. Asif Siddiqui.Patron in Chief was Respected Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed and Medical Superintendent SGRH Dr. Arif Iftikhar was the Guest of Honor. Faculty members from various departments, alongside nursing staff, also attended the event.The symposium brought together distinguished faculty members, healthcare professionals, and trainees with the aim of promoting awareness, advocacy, and evidence-based practices related to breastfeeding and maternal and newborn health.The following important topics were included in the symposium:🔹 Baby-Friendly Hospital InitiativeAn overview of the importance of creating supportive healthcare environments that facilitate early initiation and continuation of breastfeeding and promote mother–baby friendly practices.🔹 Colostrum & Its Benefit to the InfantHighlighting the unique nutritional and immunological benefits of colostrum and emphasizing the importance of early feeding for newborn health and protection.🔹 Global Guidelines on Breastfeeding + KMCA discussion on evidence-based global recommendations for breastfeeding, along with the important role of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), particularly for vulnerable and premature newborns.🔹 Public Breastfeeding — Breaking TaboosAddressing social misconceptions and barriers surrounding breastfeeding in public and advocating for a supportive, respectful, and breastfeeding-friendly society.🔹 Why Breastfeeding Matters for Our CommunityExploring the wider maternal, neonatal, public health and societal benefits of breastfeeding and highlighting the collective responsibility of families, healthcare professionals, institutions and communities.The symposium provided an engaging platform for evidence-based knowledge, clinical experience, advocacy, and practical insights into breastfeeding support and maternal and newborn care.It was a valuable academic and advocacy initiative promoting breastfeeding awareness, supportive healthcare practices, community engagement and healthier mothers and babies.Together, let us support breastfeeding for healthy mothers, healthy babies and stronger communities.
