Vice Chancellor’s Message

It gives me an absolute honor and great privilege to write this message today to the cream of nation and inspiring professionals of Fatima Jinnah Medical University where I have fond memories of being a regular Vice Chancellor with best team.
Fatima Jinnah Medical College for women was established in 1948, named after the illustrious sister of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The institute was elevated to the status of Fatima Jinnah Medical University on 1st July, 2015.
It attracts the best talent not only from Pakistan but all over the world and countries of SAARC region as well. Among the three affiliated teaching hospitals, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is one of the oldest tertiary care hospital established in 1946.Its faculty consists of eminent professors and distinguished specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research and service delivery.  The alumni of FJMU are pride of institute serving in the country and abroad. Again the credit goes to this esteemed institution that has given them the best education, professionalism and moral values.

HIGHLIGHTS

The 3rd Clinical Pathologic Conference (CPC) of the Final Year Batch 2026–2027 was successfully held at Fatima Jinnah Medical University on Wednesday, 29th April 2026. Organized by the Department of Medical Education under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir—Chairperson Department of Medicine, Director DME & QEC, and Dean Undergraduates—the session proved to be an intellectually stimulating and engaging academic activity.Two highly intriguing cases were presented. The first case, a 14-year-old boy with unusual behavioral changes, highlighted a complex presentation of disinhibition, later diagnosed as schizophrenia with coexisting epilepsy—posing significant diagnostic and management challenges. This case was presented by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, led by Dr. Irum Aamer, Associate Professor.The second presentation, delivered by Surgical Unit II under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Qamar Ashfaq, focused on a series of rectovaginal fistula cases. The discussion was exceptionally insightful, with a thorough exploration of diagnostic dilemmas and a detailed overview of various surgical management techniques. The session was highly appreciated by the students for its clarity and clinical relevance.The CPC was attended by final-year medical students and faculty members, with active student participation adding vibrance and depth to the discussion. The interactive nature of the session fostered critical thinking and collaborative learning.The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, graced the occasion and addressed the audience. He emphasized the importance of CPCs in bridging the gap between theory and clinical practice, encouraging students to develop analytical skills and a patient-centered approach. Awareness Seminar on drugs prevention Held at Fatima Jinnah Medical UniversityAn awareness seminar on drug prevention was organized at Fatima Jinnah Medical University in collaboration with the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (CNF). The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, while Director General Punjab Counter Narcotics Force, Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Lt. Col. Faisal, Lt. Col. Asif, Lt. Col. Furqan, Barrister Malik Salman, and other CNF members were also present on the occasion.The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness among youth regarding the harmful effects of drugs and the importance of eliminating drug use. Detailed discussions were also held on the role of educational institutions and the responsibilities of administration in combating drug abuse.In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal appreciated the services of CNF, stating that the organization is playing a pivotal role in protecting society from the hazard of drugs. Reaffirming the university’s full support for the national anti-narcotics campaign, he said that effective measures are being taken to promote a healthy and drug-free academic environment at the university. These initiatives include strengthening student counselling and support systems, organizing awareness and preventive programs, and collaborating with national institutions. He further emphasized that the role of healthcare professionals is not limited to treatment alone but also includes prevention, early detection, and public awareness.Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal, in his detailed briefing on drug prevention, stated that drugs are severely damaging the nation’s human and economic resources. He said the state is taking effective measures to address this issue and that over the past seven months, CNF has conducted more than 1,000 successful operations, effectively disrupting drug smuggling networks. He further added that the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz is actively working not only on drug control but also on the rehabilitation of drug addicts. He stated that CNF is not only striving to eliminate drugs but is also ensuring a safer future for coming generations. He also briefed the participants on the performance and services of Punjab CNF.During the seminar, a documentary film on drug trafficking was also screened, followed by an interactive session in which participants engaged in a question-and-answer exchange with the speakers. The participants declared this seminar as exemplary one and great message delivered by Chief Guest. They highly appreciated the collaborations of CNF. Principal Prof. Abdul Hameed, Deans, faculty members, and a large number of Undergraduates and Nursing students, attended the event.
